50 Bed Care Home, Rushden
A contemporary nursing home in Rushden, Northamptonshire.
This development includes 52 high-grade bedrooms with en-suite facilities in a 3,000m² state-of-the-art nursing and care home. Parking for 17 cars is provided at basement level, giving larger outdoor recreational spaces. The lack of vehicles around the building also provides a safer environment for residents who may be hearing or sight impaired.
The floor plan provides for easy circulation without introducing long corridors, which often feel oppressive. Key design elements for the care of dementia residents have been incorporated and great emphasis is put on the use of natural light.
The difficult site presented problems with building density and it was apparent early on that a four-storey design would have to be employed. As surrounding buildings only reach two and three storeys it was vital that the impact of the fourth was minimized. This was achieved by dividing the facade into separate sections and stepping down the final section to reduce the ridgeline of the roof. The addition of hipped roofs also helped to reduce visual mass. Despite a cramped site with poor access, the final design reads as a building which sits comfortably in its surroundings and still provides the required accommodation. Another project that demonstrates our continued commitment to innovative design solutions.
